Traveling With Kids: Amsterdam

26 Sep

Time for another Traveling With Kids post over on creative parenting site Classic Play.  This time I delve deep into why Amsterdam is my favourite city to travel to as a family.  I fell in love with this city as a carefree 20 year old (wink wink) and I love it even more as a traveling mama.  Read about all my favourite sites, bites and things to do with kids in this fantastic city here.

amsterdamMany many thanks to my super talented bloggy pals Deepa, Judith and Giova for helping out with this post!

Traveling With Kids: Couch Surfing

1 Aug

My newest Traveling With Kids column is up on Classic Play today.  This time I’m talking about the Couch Surfing organisation and how it turns out to be quite family friendly.  Surprising for everyone, I’m sure.  I’m still not 100% sold on the idea but I find it so fascinating.  Pop on over and let me know what you think and, more importantly, if you would ever do it.

Traveling With Kids: Cape Breton Island

23 May

I’ve finally managed to write a little post about one of our favourite places in the world, Cape Breton Island (in Nova Scotia, Canada).  I have many fond memories of visiting the island as a kid and teenager and was so happy I could finally take my own family there last summer.  Cape Bretoners are some of the kindest people in the world and will go out of their way to make sure your time visiting their island is the best it can be. Click over to Classic Play to hear more about what the island has to offer.  And if you’ve already visited the island I’d love to hear what you enjoyed the most while there.capebretonisland1-2

Traveling With Kids: Venice

20 Feb

My latest Traveling With Kids column is over on the creative parenting site Classic Play today.  This time I write all about traveling to Venice as a family.  We spent a few days there at Christmas and it was absolutely beautiful.  We all loved wandering along the canals and admiring the stunning architecture as well as visiting the sites and museums.  My kids have officially declared it one of their favourite cities in the world.  Lucky for us it’s only a 3 hour drive away…

Traveling With Kids: Geocaching

28 Jan

I’m over on Classic Play with my newest Traveling With Kids column.  This time I talk about our new family hobby geocaching.  Yep, it’s not just for techies anymore.  It’s a great way to get your family out of the house and in the great outdoors.  My kids are so enthusiastic about it and we’ve discovered some fantastic new places where we live (you can see my kids doing it in our local park in this PBS Pen Pal video).  We’re also really looking forward to geocaching on our upcoming trip to Morocco.  So, any other geocaching families out there?

Traveling With Kids: South Shore, Nova Scotia

13 Sep

My newest Traveling With Kids column is over on Classic Play today.  And this one hits home for me.  Literally.  I write all about our time spent on the South Shore of my hometown province of Nova Scotia. I don’t want to sound biased but it really is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

The South Shore of Nova Scotia is all about the simple life.  Great beaches, picturesque fishing villages, cozy little cafes and bakeries and lots of hikes and walks along the beautiful coastlines and in the local forests.  In other words, the perfect destination for a summer family vacation.

Traveling With Kids Column on Classic Play! (The Interview)

24 Jan

My newest  Traveling With Kids column is over on Classic Play! today.  This time I decided to get down to the nitty gritty of traveling with kids.  Meaning,  I interviewed the kids and asked their opinions and experiences in regards to travel.  They gave me some well thought out philosophical anecdotes on traveling.  And they also gave me a story which revolves around toilets (there was an 8 year old boy involved!).  I loved hearing how different our kids memories are of our travels compared to ours.  Some little stories they tell I had completely forgotten about.  So pop on over and let me know what you think.  And if you have some stories about your kid’s views on travel I’d love to hear them!
